Aptitude Tests to assess a candidate’s logical reasoning
Also referred to as Cognitive Ability Tests, Aptitude Reasoning Tests are deemed more in-depth than some of the basic skill tests. For almost any role you are recruiting for, a basic level of literacy and/or numeracy is a pre-requisite and these tests help gauge a candidate’s aptitude, attention to detail and ability for numbers and language.
What do Aptitude Reasoning Tests measure?
Aptitude Tests measure general cognitive ability and are a measure of how well candidates are at solving problems and processing information.
These tests look at problem-solving, understanding and logic in a particular skill area such as verbal or numerical. Candidate’s apply their reasoning skills to interpret the information and then use logic to find out the correct answer.
When to use an Aptitude Test?
Aptitude Tests are ideal tests to help improve selection within the recruitment process. They can help decide which candidate’s are the best fit for the role by filtering out those unsuitable that do not showcase the core skills required.
Utilise as a complementary assessment alongside a psychometric test such as our Character DNA to get a full-rounded view of cognitive aptitude.
Benefits of General Aptitude Tests?
Aptitude tests provide you with a rapid and precise way of measuring the abilities required to succeed in nearly every occupation.
They are often cited as the best predictor of future job performance of a candidate. Investing in a form of cognitive ability testing empowers you as a hiring manager to make clever decisions when filling positions.
For the individual with little experience, aptitude tests can help them stand out better by looking beyond what they have done in the past – rather assessing what they have the potential to achieve in the future.
For companies, you can gain an insight into how well a candidate will be at being able to solve problems and process information. Or for training purposes, used to identify strengths and development needs for current employees.

Choosing an Aptitude Test
The most commonly used cognitive tests include verbal reasoning and numerical reasoning. Both of our tests have progressive difficulty, with questions becoming harder as a candidate progresses through the test.
Numerical Reasoning Test
Our Numerical Reasoning Test assesses a candidate’s ability to understand, interpret and draw logical conclusions from numerical data such as Simplifying Algebraic Equations, Number Sequences, Lateral Thinking and Numerical Comprehension.
Verbal Reasoning Test
Our Verbal Reasoning Test assesses a candidate’s capacity to read, interpret and identify critical issues quickly, then logically derive conclusions from the written information given.
Require bespoke adjustments to these tests?
All assessments can be adjusted to meet your specific needs. Bespoke activities often include the addition of organisation specific questions relating to specific software, company policies and procedures as well as the removal of questions if required.
