Overview of Microsoft Office Tests

Skillsarena’s Microsoft Office online test “simulations” are designed to simulate the product and cover a wide range of functionality, tracking the candidate’s answers through a combination of selection, keyboard short cuts and right clicks. They test a candidates ability to use Microsoft software products in a fully simulated test platform. Choose from the common applications in versions 2003-2013.

For all the Microsoft Office simulations at Intermediate and Expert levels, the difficulty is increased by raising the complexity and rarity of the tasks being performed requiring more in-depth knowledge of the application.

This is an entirely, independent, creation of the look and feel of the real application. This is delivered within a browser for ease of access for the candidate and is not the application itself, nor is it dependent on the candidate having the real application installed or needing access to it in some form.

What Constitutes a real “simulation” and why do Skillsarena simulations stand out?

Some claimed “simulations” simply show an image of the screen and add “hot spots”. Leading the candidate to the answer. Others pre-installation requirements for the candidate add a major barrier to test taking.

Simulations created by Skillsarena are as close to the real work environment as possible. The design and functionality includes working menus/dropdowns and short cut keys. The question timing gives the candidate the best chance of “finding” the right answer as they would in the real world. Including: not being forced to use a menu when they may prefer to use Ctrl for example. All achievable without additional complex downloads to enable functionality*.

Assessing results

The test reports are fully comprehensive detailing the users ability by level, percentile and timeframe.

It’s not just a raw score! In addition to a raw score/percentage, Skillsarena provide a percentile ranking applied to all of our assessment results. Two percentile rankings are provided on each report. They clearly identify how each candidate ranks against others that have taken the assessment. One Percentile is a clear measure of how the candidate ranks against all others in your organisation; whilst the other is how their score ranks against all others worldwide.

This provides an invaluable insight over and above the raw score/percentage and mitigates how hard or easy a test may be. For example a candidate score may look “Low or High” but when you consider the percentile ranking they may in fact be above or below average.
