Overview of Test

Designed to test an individual’s ability to perform tasks within a simulated Microsoft PowerPoint environment. Unlike most Microsoft PowerPoint Tests this test does not consist of multiple choice questions, instead this simulated test platform is designed to closely mimic the look, feel and functionality of the original software. The functionality is fair to candidates in that it allows the tasks to be completed in a familiar way using menus, buttons, left clicks, right clicks and keyboard shortcuts in a way that they are most accustomed.

The assessment is available at a variety of levels [basic, intermediate & expert] enabling you to assess at a level relevant to both the candidate and the role. A comprehensive report breaks down ability by level, percentile and correct answers.

The levels were initially based on Microsoft Training and have been “levelled” in line with real world day to day activities. The levelling is based on a common consensus from Skillsarena’s view, customer feedback and the Skillsarena User Group. Levels assigned to candidates should be chosen as appropriate to the needs of the role. In the vast majority of cases Basic is appropriate and perhaps intermediate in some cases.

Recommended Applications

For persons who need to demonstrate understanding and capability in MS applications prior to employment or as part of training needs analysis.

Consider that the levels are based on “typical use” of the application; for example basic would cover those tasks that are performed regularly and easily, the majority of times by most people using the application day in day out. More difficult tasks such as those in intermediate and certainly expert levels will only be performed by those that have more in-depth knowledge of the application and typically use far less basic functionality.

Difficulty Levels Available:

Basic test level - level 1

Required to understand the principles of Microsoft PowerPoint & demonstrate they are able to competently navigate the software, create & save their work, & perform essential & common daily tasks. This level is appropriate for a candidate who uses MS PowerPoint as a basic slide show presentation application & has access to assistance if required

Intermediate test level - level 2

Required to understand the concept of Microsoft PowerPoint & demonstrate they are able to perform tasks which are required frequently for more advanced formatting & setting changes. This level is appropriate for a candidate who frequently writes more complex presentations with animated effects.

Expert test level - level 3

Required to be highly proficient in using Microsoft PowerPoint & demonstrate they are able to change permission settings, create specialised presentations & convert presentations to different formats. This test builds on Core by increasing the rarity of the tasks tested & the depth of knowledge required to complete the task within the given time. This level is appropriate for a candidate who is expected to use MS PowerPoint autonomously & understand the majority of its tools and software capabilities.
