Overview of Test
Designed to test an individual’s ability to perform tasks within a simulated Microsoft Word environment. Unlike most Microsoft Word Tests this test does not consist of multiple choice questions, instead this simulated test is designed to closely mimic the look, feel and functionality of the original software. The functionality is fair to candidates in that it allows the tasks to be completed in a familiar way using menus, buttons, left clicks, right clicks and keyboard shortcuts in a way that they are most accustomed.
The assessment is available at a variety of levels [basic, intermediate and expert] enabling you to assess at a level relevant to both the candidate and the role. You can choose the level at the point of assignment. A comprehensive report breaks down ability by level, percentile and correct answers.
The levels were initially based on Microsoft Training and have been “levelled” in line with real world day to day activities. The levelling is based on a common consensus from Skillsarena’s view, customer feedback and the Skillsarena User Group. Levels assigned to candidates should be chosen as appropriate to the needs of the role. In the vast majority of cases Basic is appropriate and perhaps intermediate in some cases.
Available software versions: Microsoft Word 2003 | Microsoft Word 2007 | Microsoft Word 2010 | Microsoft Word 2013
Persons who need to demonstrate understanding and capability in MS applications prior to employment or as part of training needs analysis.
Consider that the levels are based on “typical use” of the application; for example basic would cover those tasks that are performed regularly and easily, the majority of times by most people using the application day in day out. More difficult tasks such as those in intermediate and certainly expert levels will only be performed by those that have more in-depth knowledge of the application and typically use far less basic functionality.
As well as our Microsoft Word Test, there are several complementary tests that come under the Microsoft Office Tests module:
Difficulty Levels Available:
Required to understand the principles of Microsoft Word & demonstrate they are able to competently navigate the software, create & save their work, as well as perform common daily tasks. This level is appropriate for a candidate who uses MS Word daily as a simple word processing application.
Required to understand the concept of Microsoft Word & demonstrate they are able to perform tasks which are required for more advanced formatting & setting changes. This level is appropriate for a candidate who regularly writes templates & more complex documents.
Required to be highly proficient in using Microsoft Word & demonstrate they are able to change permission settings, display an understanding of advanced macro commands & editing large complex documents. This test builds on Core by increasing the rarity of the tasks tested & the depth of knowledge required to complete the task within the given time. This level is appropriate for a candidate who is expected to use MS Word autonomously & understand the majority of tools & capabilities available.
