Everything you need to know
The Numeracy assessment is a numerical reasoning assessment designed to question an individual’s ability to determine the answer to numerical scenarios with the aid of a calculator. As such, the problems used in this test are more challenging than that of the Arithmetic assessment. As part of this test, a candidate can expect many different styles of questions, including true or false statements and multiple-choice questions.
Numerical knowledge is a basic requirement in many high-level jobs. Here at Skills Arena, we provide a Numeracy skills test to allow you to assess an individual’s knowledge and their ability to apply that knowledge to accurately solve math problems.
The Numeracy skills test has been designed to test an individual’s ability to determine the answer when presented with numerical scenarios with the aid of a calculator. While the ability to perform mental arithmetic may be highly sought after, this skills test aims to assess an individual’s basic understanding of mathematical calculations and the ability to execute them correctly.
During this test candidates will face a variety of math question styles including true or false statements and multiple-choice questions. Each Level of this skills test contains questions relating to averages, conversions, costings, decimals, fractions, percentages, ratio and time.
Each level of the Numeracy test is incrementally harder and builds on topics from the previous level. The Fundamental numeracy level involves performing basic calculations and allows the use of a calculator. At the Core and Professional numeracy levels, the complexity of the mathematical scenarios is increased and in turn, so is the quantity of data provided to achieve a result.
Candidates are presented with 12 math questions to complete within 15 minutes. The candidate’s responses are automatically marked and a point is awarded for each correctly answered arithmetic question. Skipped questions and those that are not taken will result in no point being awarded. Practice math questions are available to prepare for the Numeracy assessment.
Who is the Numeracy Test aimed at?
The Numeracy skills test has been created as a pre-employment test to gain a picture of a candidates basic math skills. This numerical reasoning test can be used to verify an individual’s QTS (Qualified Teacher status) before employment and serves as a more informative way to quantify their math skills than an interview would.
This skills test is a great way to assess an individual’s numerical knowledge regardless of their level of education. When hiring for positions such as a Teacher, Trader, Accountant and many others, their math skills need to be measured and up to a certain standard to be sure they are capable of performing well in the job.
There are countless job positions where numerical literacy is required to carry out day-to-day tasks in the workplace. This aptitude test assesses mental arithmetic skills such as basic knowledge of numbers, decimal points, percentages, and interpreting math for measurements and data analysis.
At this test level candidates are required to read a short paragraph of text and perform basic math calculations or conversions based on the information presented. The questions feature common (1-100) whole numbers.
Any individual taking the Fundamental level of this Numeracy assessment is expected to have subject knowledge in line with a foundation level GCSE graduate.
At this test level candidates are required to read a short paragraph of text and perform multiple stage math calculations using uncommon (101+) numbers, decimals and fractions.
Any individual taking the Core level of this Numeracy test is expected to have subject knowledge in line with a higher level GCSE graduat
During this test level candidates are required to read a paragraph of text and perform multiple stage math calculations featuring complex numbers, decimals and fractions. This test builds on the Core level assessment by increasing the quantity of calculations needed to reach the final answer and the quantity of data presented for interpretation.
Any candidate taking the Professional level of this Numeracy test is expected to have subject knowledge in line with an A-Level graduate.
- Practice test available
- Randomised presentation
- 15 minutes available
- 10 minutes average completion time
- 12 questions presented
- 240 questions in pool
Why use a Numeracy Test?
Our online Numeracy skills test is a great way to assess an individual’s arithmetic skills. Without taking a candidate’s level of education into account, our online assessment, ensures you are able to see their maths skill level and make informed decisions during the hiring process.
By using this online assessment, you eliminate the need to send the test-taker to an assessment centre, this saves time and reduces cost during the hiring process. While this test can be used as a pre-employment aptitude test it can also be used to assess and refresh current employees, and the practice tests can also help to expand their numerical literacy by knowing what it is they are expected to have fluent knowledge on.
