Speed Typing Test

Everything you need to know.

Use our typing speed test as part of your organisation's pre-employment hiring process to ensure you find candidates with good typing speed. The test measures a candidate's typing speed by finding out their average WPM (words per minute). Many jobs require knowledge of how to use a keyboard and type with speed, from legal transcribers to journalists. The test will exercise a candidate's typing skills, assessing whether they can type large amounts of information correctly and quickly. By using our test, you can guarantee that your company will select with accuracy the candidates most equipped to tasks that involve fast typing.

Speed Typing Test

What is the Typing Speed Test?

Our typing test is designed to test an individual’s typing abilities, giving them a text to type in a limited number of minutes. Here's how the typing test works:

The test measures candidates' speed and accuracy copying a sample of text on screen. They then are required to type the document as quickly as possible. The test has been primarily designed to measure WPM, but it also assesses factors such as accuracy, attention to detail and the ability to transcribe words competently. The typing test rewards candidates who have more practice working with keyboards.

The typing test has been designed for the candidate to not be able complete the typing required of the document in the minutes allocated due to the sheer volume of words. This means that the test can more accurately measure typing abilities in a broad range of people. 5 minutes are allowed and 1 sample is presented, which must be typed. Then the test will be able to accurately determine the candidate's WPM. Four writing topics can be chosen from, with an equal number of words and the same time allocated. These are Advertorial, Customer Service, Management and Sport. A practice typing test is also available for candidates who wish to exercise their typing skills beforehand.

The test is useful for employers looking to check that they hire candidates who are suited to the job of typing large amounts of information with speed and accuracy. A candidate with good typing and a high WPM index is an asset to any work that requires correct typing.

A practice test is available for candidates who wish to practice their skills before taking a real test. Speed typing is a skill that rewards practice, so it is important that candidates are given the option to warm up before they work on the real pre-employment test. After all, candidates with the highest WPM will be those who have the most practice in typing and transcribing audio information, and who are most confident using a keyboard.
