Sorting and Coding Test

Everything you need to know.

Sorting and coding are essential clerical skills for many technology companies. With businesses that offer a tech based product, codes are used to identify any faults or errors that will need filing and correcting.

Tasks like these require individuals to have strong administrative and clerical skills as well as an aptitude for databases. Potential candidates would also have to be relatively comfortable processing numerical information.

Sorting and Coding Test

What is a Sorting & Coding skills test?

Our Sorting & Coding skills aptitude test is designed to evaluate an individual's basic numerical, analytical, and technical skills.

In this test the candidate will be given 15 multiple choice questions which they are expected to complete in 15 minutes. Each question has a coded message which the candidate will need to briefly analyse in order to select the correct response to the message.

These responses are then automatically marked and one point will be given to each correct answer. Some of the questions may be more complex and require multiple answers, in which case these answers will collectively make up one point.

Who is the Sorting & Coding skills test aimed at?

Our Sorting & Coding skills test is designed to assess the clerical and technical skills of both existing and potential employees. For existing employees, it's a good way to practice and maintain their sorting and coding skills and even up-skill if they are new to clerical and administrative jobs.

The test is also useful for employers as a pre-employment assessment. It can often be difficult to assess a candidate's abilities just by looking through their CV. By including skills testing in the recruitment process, employers are able to reduce that element of risk and can be more assured of the applicant's capabilities. Assessments like the Sorting & Coding test are especially useful if the job requires a specific technical and clerical skillset.

Sorting and Coding Test

Skills Assessed

Candidates have 15 minutes to answer 25 questions. Each question covers essential practical and theoretical knowledge.

01 Reasoning

The questions in the test will contain a coded instruction. Once the candidate has decoded the instruction, they'll be expected to select the best response or next course of action according to their own judgement.

02 Attention to detail

The coded messages provided in the questions can be complex so this test can be very helpful in measuring a candidate's attention to detail. They will be expected to comprehensively read and decode the message to ensure they fully understand the instructions.

03 Concentration

The Sorting & Coding skills test is timed, which makes it perfect for assessing a candidate's aptitude for concentration. They have 15 minutes to complete the entire test, which requires them to focus not just on completing the test accurately but efficiently as well.

04 Observation

Our aptitude tests are also able to evaluate how well a candidate understands situations. While the coded messages are numerical, candidates are still expected to have strong grammar and vocabulary skills to understand and assess the question.
