What is the Microsoft Word Test?

The Microsoft Word aptitude test has been created to assess a user's skill at creating and editing Microsoft Word documents. Through establishing a simulated Microsoft Word environment that closely emulates the look, feel and functionality of the original software, it closely assesses a candidate's ability to perform tasks that they would be expected to carry out in a role that requires knowledge of the MS suite, specifically Word. 

The testing formula is fair to candidates in that it allows the tasks to be completed in a familiar way; the menus, buttons, left clicks, right clicks and keyboard shortcuts will be just like the real thing that they are accustomed to.

Candidates taking this online Microsoft Word assessment are presented with 15 questions to complete. Each question in this assessment has been allocated a time limit, typically 60-80 seconds, depending on their complexity. The candidate's responses are automatically marked and a point is awarded for each correctly answered question. Skipped questions or those left blank will result in no point being awarded. Practice questions are also available to give candidates an environment in which to warm up, without facing time pressure.

3 Microsoft Word Test Levels Available

Three different levels of the Microsoft Word assessment are available and can be used to test various levels of ability. These exam levels are Basic, Intermediate and Expert. The more challenging levels will assess new skills covering new material, as well as expanding on exam criteria from previous levels.

01 Basic Level

In this Microsoft Word Test, candidates are required to have a basic understanding of the principles of Word. They must be able to demonstrate that they can competently navigate the software, create and save their work, and perform essential, common daily tasks. 

The MS Word Questions involved in the test's Basic level are appropriate for a candidate who uses MS Word daily to process simple documents and has access to support and assistance if needed.

02 Intermediate Level

In the Intermediate test format, candidates are required to firmly grasp the concept of Microsoft Word, demonstrating that they can format text and paragraphs as required and perform tasks using Word functions required for more advanced formatting and setting changes.

This MS Word online test level is appropriate for a candidate who will need to regularly write templates and create more complex documents as part of their role. 

03 Expert Level

At this test level, candidates are required to be highly proficient in using Word. Test-takers need to demonstrate they can change permission settings, edit large, complex documents, and display an understanding of advanced macro commands. This test builds on the requirements of the lower level exams by increasing the amount of answers needed and the depth of knowledge required to complete the task within the given time. 

The Expert MS Word test level is appropriate for a candidate who is expected to use MS Word autonomously and understand the majority of tools and capabilities at their disposal.
