Numerical Reasoning Test

Our Numerical Reasoning Test assesses a candidate’s ability to understand, interpret and draw conclusions from numerical data. This test helps recruiters to understand a candidate’s ability to analyse and interpret information, usually given in the form of tables and graphs, and draw accurate inferences from a combination of facts, figures and statistics. Subjects often focused on during a Numerical Reasoning Test include data analysis, financial analysis, currency conversion, percentages, ratios, estimations and more.

What is the Numerical Reasoning Test?

The Numerical Reasoning Test is widely used at the pre-employment stage to assess the numerical skills of candidates. This is a psychometric test created to identify an individual’s arithmetic skills, numerical mental ability, logic, Numerical knowledge, and Numerical reasoning skills.

This Numerical reasoning test has been designed to assess an individual’s ability to utilise a wide range of reasoning skills. Candidates will be required to answer questions on the following areas: Number series, balancing equations, Lateral thinking dilemmas and numerical comprehension calculations.

The Numerical reasoning test is often used alongside verbal reasoning tests and other psychometric tests by employers as a situational judgement test to see whether individuals can practice mathematics and apply calculations they have learned to daily decision-making.

During this aptitude test, test-takers will have to collect information from graphs and use different types of data interpretation to show numerical reasoning. The questions are presented in a variety of formats including manual answer boxes and multiple-choice questions. As each candidate progresses through the test the difficulty will increase, using tougher number sequences and larger percentages.

Candidates are presented with a total of 30 questions to complete within 30 minutes. The first 10 questions of the numerical reasoning test will be at a Fundamental Level, the following questions (11-20) will be at a Core Level and the final 10 questions will be at a Professional Level. The candidates’ responses are automatically marked, and a point is awarded for each correctly answered question. Any skipped questions or those answered incorrectly will result in no points being added.

Who is the Numerical Reasoning Test aimed at?

Here at Skills Arena, we have formulated this Numerical reasoning test as part of the Logical Reasoning module to aid employers in the hiring process. The numerical reasoning questions are built to assess abilities for jobs that require working with numbers and numerical information.

This numerical aptitude test is most used very early in the application process, usually before the interview stage, helping to narrow down the list to those with the required numerical reasoning skills. The Numerical reasoning test measures how a candidate can reason with data provided to perform accurate calculations, this ability test assesses the use of basic arithmetic without a calculator to ensure daily tasks involving graphs and number series can be performed.

As an online test provider, Skills Arena have created this test to be suitable for a variety of job positions. Developed to assess numerical reasoning this numerical test provides a strong indication of a candidate’s ability once employed. A large percentage of individuals may be applying for graduate schemes and our numerical reasoning test can aid employers in assessing the right graduate to hire, who can perform well under pressure in data-driven roles.

A great way to prepare for the numerical reasoning test is to take the practice tests, repeating these practice questions help candidates to get a feel for the real aptitude test and give the test-taker the chance to refine the speed and accuracy of their numerical skills while helping them to learn. By studying a range of numerical tests available on the market we have been able to put together this numerical reasoning test and practice tests to assess a range of numerical abilities.

Why use a Numerical Reasoning Test?

When looking at a list of candidates with equal qualifications, it is often difficult for an employer to narrow down the pool. With a Numerical reasoning aptitude test, employers are able to hire based on facts and eliminate any possibility of bias during the hiring process.

The numerical test questions in this test are based on the job functions that an individual will be expected to carry out, this way employers are able to determine the potential profit of future employees. After all, an individual's ability to carry out tasks accurately and within a time limit is very important, and psychometric assessments like this enable you to separate the strong candidates from those who may struggle. This process also allows companies to reduce employee turnover and saves the company money in the long run.

Another benefit of using our online test is to save the money and time that would be spent sending candidates to an assessment centre. It is a fast and easy way to know that your employees or future employees can perform well under pressure and draw on various types of information and come to accurate conclusions to solve the problem at hand.

Deduction

The Numerical reasoning test requires candidates to have the ability to take in various types of information then use logic and reason to reach the correct answer.

Mental Agility

During this numerical test, candidates will need to have show flexibility in their approach when tackling each new problem. This is a skill that is highly sought after in many job roles.

Lateral Thinking

This test will push the test-taker to show they have the ability to solve problems using an indirect approach that may not be immediately obvious.

Logic and Reasoning

Numerical reasoning is a critical and rational way of solving test questions. It involves being number literate and being able to make on the spot decisions to find rational steps to a solution.
